In today's Herald Sun, an article about Dem Sen Julia Boseman refers
to a bill
she filed that would let former drug addicts sue drug dealers. Does
anyone know
how to see what happened to that bill?

 Thanks in advance,

 Ken Gasch

Thanks again to INC for providing input to the rearticulation of an
overarching
brand. It's a process where a great deal of information goes in the
funnel and
 is graduation distilled.

I will tell you that in my experience people often expect a "thunder
clap" from
this process but if it works, its more of an "ah ha" at the end.

We'll keep you posted. At best the end result is an overarching brand
or
persona we can all use and at worst we will have identified some
common DNA that
make all Durham messengers more consistent.

DCVB greatly values the partnership with INC.

NORTH CAROLINIANS FOR FAIR WAGES ALERT!

The NC Legislature is on the verge of ending session and the minimum
wage has
 not been passed into law!

Click HERE to let your legislators know they must not leave town
without passing
a $1 raise in the minimum wage! They need to hear from you now!

Pass this on to everyone you know and ask them to contact their
legislators as
 well.

 Background:

The NC Senate has threatened to end the legislative session without
passing an
increase in the minimum wage! Both the House and Senate have passed
their own
bills that would increase the minimum wage BUT IT IS NOT YET THE LAW.
We cannot
let this happen. Let your legislators know they must raise North
Carolina's
minimum wage by at least $1 by passing House Bill 2174 as soon as
possible.

The NC House passed House Bill 2174, which would raise North
Carolina's minimum
wage by $1 per hour. The Senate included a $1 increase in their budget
proposal. This means they have passed different bills and they used
different
language. The House and Senate must agree to the same bill for the
increase to
 become the law.

NOW the Senate is threatening to leave town at the end of this week
without
passing the minimum wage increase! After weeks of intense budget
negotiations,
the minimum wage increase is NOT IN THE FINAL BUDGET and the Senate
has not
scheduled HB 2174 for a hearing and vote.

THE BILL LANGUAGE MATTERS: The Senate's proposed minimum wage increase
would
delink North Carolina's minimum wage statute from the federal minimum
wage law.
This would mean that if the US Congress ever does raise the federal
minimum
wage, North Carolina's minimum would not go up. House Bill 2174, the
House
version of the minimum wage increase, would make NC's minimum wage
$6.15 per
hour (a $1 increase from the current $5.15) or the federal minimum
wage
whichever is greater. HB 2174 IS THE LANGUAGE WE WANT!

Click HERE to let your legislators know they must not leave town
without passing
a $1 raise in the minimum wage!

Should expect to see more traffic here.

Washington is part of a north-south corridor that
starts up at North Duke & Glendale -- and travels
south along Glendale, Washington, Foster, Corcoran,
Blackwell, and South St -- ending at South Roxboro...

 Washington Street to reopen Friday
 Herald-Sun, 29 June 2006

Weather permitting, the N.C. Department of
Transportation will reopen Washington Street in Durham
 on Friday.

The street was closed in May 2002 for widening and
lengthening as part of the Interstate 85 widening
 project.

For more information, call the resident engineer at
 560-6857.

 fyi-

Neighbors in Northgate Park have been anticipating the re-opening of
the
bridge with varying amounts of personal emotion ranging from anxiety
to
 relief.

Residents along various streets (Glendale, Ruffin, Ruby, Club,
Lavender and
Acadia) all will be affected either by increasing or decreasing
traffic
 levels and speed.

While we are the most immediately affected neighborhood NORTH of 85,
we
empathize and ask our neighbors SOUTH of 85 along the Washington
Street
corridor to join us in requesting regular (or at least periodic)
police
patrols up and down this new route.

We're also requesting that drivers respect the speed limits in all our
 residential neighborhoods.

With a very successful Central Park Charter School along its route
(including the fact that it intersects Club at an 'unusual' angle)
where an
urban trail also intersects, we want to make sure that pedestrians and
elementary students have their rights and well-being protected too!

Thanks John for posting this notice.

 Mike Shiflett

It is an interesting idea to hold drug dealers liable for some of the
damage
they cause in our community. The Blaire Thompson Drug Dealer Liability
Act
would allow former drug addicts to sue drug dealers.

The bill may be read at
http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/Sessions/2005/Bills/Senate/HTML/S1211v1.html

The membership of INC may not agree that the idea is good. That said,
would INC
endorsement even help this bill? I am afraid that all I know about
bills was
learned by watching School House Rock. Oh, I'm just a bill, sitting on
capital
 hill...........
