On Sunday, Nov 11, from 2 to 4 pm at the Mt Sinai Baptist Church (5222 Mt Sinai Rd) the public is invited to a talk about local history, sponsored by the NC Humanities Council (www.nchumanities.org), the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, and the Piney Mountain Homeowners Association.
Ms. Georgia Purefoy will tell us about the momentous events which brought about the establishment of the Mt Sinai Baptist Church in 1871, and her memories of being baptized in the old creek baptismal font near the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.
Tom Magnuson, CEO of the Trading Path Association (www.tradingpath.org) will take us back even further to the Carolina frontier zone and its population of Indians, Europeans, and Africans.
There is no charge. A free-will offering will be collected for the Mt Sinai Baptist Church, and attendees will be encouraged to join the Trading Path Association.
The talk will be indoors. Those interested in hiking down to the creek baptismal font (after the talk) will want to dress appropriately for rough terrain.
For questions, please contact Deb Christie, 919.489.6171, dchristie1 at nc.rr.com.
