Fast Facts:
* To kick-off the spring and summer repaving season, the City of
Durham is hosting a fun-filled, free event for Durham residents to learn
more about the City's repaving plans for 2009, while enjoying Northgate
Mall's food and entertainment.
* Durham City Council members will join Mayor William V. "Bill"
Bell and Public Works Director Katie Kalb to discuss Durham's plans for
this year's street repaving efforts.
* Courtesy of the Marble Slab Creamery, all event attendees will
also be given printed vouchers for free "Rocky Road" Ice Cream and
"Smoothies," to be given away from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday,
April 18 only.
* In addition, the first 150 attendees will be provided one free
ticket per person to the Stadium 10 Theater, courtesy of Northgate Mall.
These limited-amount tickets will be given out on a first-come,
first-serve basis.
* Finally, paving equipment will be on display as well as
"Pavenator" signs so residents will learn what to look for when repaving
occurs throughout Durham over the coming spring and summer months. The
equipment is being provided courtesy of Barnhill Contracting Company,
the City's sub-contractor for repaving projects this year.
* The event is being hosted for the City of Durham by Northgate
Mall, which also provided De'Mar Glasper, a fifth- grade student at
Burton IB Elementary School, with a $50 shopping spree for his winning
entry of "The Pavenator" in last year's Operation Green Light mascot
naming contest. Glasper, along with his family and some of his
classmates, will be present at this kick-off event.
* Operation Green Light debuted last year to keep residents
informed about progress the City's Department of Public Works is making
toward smoother streets for Durham. To learn more about Operation Green
Light, visit www.DurhamOperationGreenlight.org.
