Durham Convention Center Portrait Unveiling Ceremony Sept. 17

 

What:              Durham Convention Center Portrait Unveiling Ceremony

        

Who:               City of Durham, Durham Convention & Visitors Bureau,
and Downtown Durham, Inc.

 

When:             Thursday, September 17, 2009, at 4:30 p.m.

 

Where:            Durham Convention Center

Fast Facts:

*         William V. "Bill" Bell, mayor for the City of Durham; Reyn
Bowman, president and chief executive officer of the Durham Convention &
Visitors Bureau; and William A. Kalkhof, president of Downtown Durham,
Inc., will be honored for their instrumental efforts in revitalizing
downtown Durham with a formal portrait to soon hang in the Durham
Convention Center.

 

*         The portrait of Bell, Bowman, and Kalkhof, commissioned by an
anonymous donor, is to honor their vision and leadership in downtown
Durham's resurgence as the best emerging regional destination in the
Triangle.

 

*         Guest speakers at the event include James Fletcher "Jim"
Goodmon, president and chief executive officer of Capitol Broadcasting
Company, Inc.; Nicholas J. Tennyson, executive vice president of the
Home Builders Association of Durham, Orange & Chatham Counties and
former mayor of the City of Durham (1997-2001); and Wib Gulley, general
counsel of the Triangle Transit, former mayor of the City of Durham
(1985-1989), and former state senator (1993-2004).  Dick Brezinski,
general manager of the Durham Marriott at the Convention Center, will
serve as the master of ceremonies.

 

*         The portrait and plaque unveiling ceremony will be immediately
followed by refreshments, which are being provided by the Durham
Marriott at the Convention Center.  All Durham residents and the news
media are invited to attend.  

 

*         The Durham Convention Center is jointly owned by the City of
Durham and Durham County Government through a 50/50 partnership
responsible for capital expenditures, operations, and maintenance.  The
center is overseen by the Durham Convention Center Authority, whose
members are appointed by the Durham City Council and the Durham County
