Durham Reports Paper Shredding & E-Scrap Recycling Event Success

Residents Reminded to Recycle E-Scrap Year-Round

DURHAM, N.C. - Durham residents came out in force and made the free
paper shredding and electronic scrap (e-scrap) event offered at this
year's Earth Day festival a success.

According to Donald Long, director of the City's Department of Solid
Waste Management, residents dropped of 9.2 tons of e-scrap, such as
computers and televisions, as well as 3.8 tons of paper for shredding at
the Durham Earth Day Festival event on April 24. "The shredding company
commented that it was the single best day they have ever had," Long
said. "We were very so pleased at the success of this event that we
plan to hold another day in the fall."

Durham residents who missed the successful event at this year's Earth
Day Festival can still safely and conveniently recycle their old
computers and televisions. The City's Department of Solid Waste
Management is reminding residents that computers and televisions are
accepted for recycling throughout the entire year at the City's
Household Hazardous Waste Facility. The facility, located at 1900 E.
Club Blvd., is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and
Thursdays through Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

For more details about other items accepted at this facility, contact
Durham One Call at (919) 560-1200 or visit the City's Web site at
