Durham Named One of "100 Best Fleets" in North America

 

DURHAM, N.C. - The City of Durham has another award to add to its list
thanks to a recent recognition for having one of the best government
vehicle fleets in North America. 

 

The City's Fleet Management Department has been honored as one of the
"100 Best Fleets" by Government Fleet Magazine. The "100 Best Fleets"
program recognizes and rewards top-performing fleet operations in the
U.S. and Canada. The award is based on numerous criteria that are
evaluated by a team of experts from the magazine.  Some of the areas
evaluated include fuel-efficient vehicles, emissions reduction,
purchasing policy, fleet utilization, policies and procedures, outreach
programs, employee education, the use of technology, and facility
improvements.

 

According to Kent Cash, director of the City's Fleet Management
Department, the award is a real honor for Durham and testament to the
City's concerted efforts to implement the best practices in fleet
management.  "Since there are thousands of public fleets in North
America, we consider being in the best 100 a real compliment, and
frankly, very humbling," Cash said.  "As a department, we constantly
strive to be efficient and cost-effective in the services we provide to
all City departments. We understand the importance of our role in
ensuring that departments have the vehicles and equipment they need to
keep this organization running smoothly."

 

This is the second award Durham has received from Government Fleet
Magazine. The department was also recognized in 2009 for being 32nd in
the U.S. and Canada for having the best "green fleet" program as well.
