The purpose of this basic level Disaster Services training is to provide an overview of the activities performed by the Mass Care group in support of a disaster relief operation. Through Mass Care, the Red Cross provides services and supplies to large numbers of people and to the community as a whole. These include sheltering, feeding, bulk distribution of items such as               clean-up kits and salvage supplies and information about the availability of these services and recovery. 

 

This instructor-led course is designed for the learners to acquire knowledge of Red Cross policies and procedures for setting up, running and closing a shelter during a disaster. The course includes lecture and group exercises which prepare volunteers and other agencies to manage shelter operations effectively and sensitively as a team while meeting the needs of people displaced as a result of a disaster.
