New "City Hall This Week" Begins Tonight

New Episode Begins Airing Friday, October 8 on DTV8; All Previous
Episodes "On Demand" on the City's DTV8 Website

 

DURHAM, N.C. - The following highlights from the October 4, 2010 Durham
City Council meeting and other topics of interest will be featured in
the upcoming episode of "City Hall This Week."  The show will begin
airing on Friday, October 8 at 8 p.m. and will also be available to
watch on-demand at www.DurhamNC.gov/DTV8/CityHallThisWeek.cfm. 

 

Website Offers Information About 2010 Street Bond Referendum 

The City of Durham is offering voters a chance to become more informed
about the upcoming $20 million street bond referendum by visiting 
www.DurhamOperationGreenlight.org. The website gives progress reports on
all of Durham's street repaving projects. Engineering and Stormwater
Manager Ed Venable with the City's Department of Public Works provides
gives an update on which streets will be repaved if the street bond is
passed on the upcoming episode of "City Hall This Week."

 

City Council Approves Home for Parrish Street Common Room

The long-awaited Parrish Street Common Room will soon have a home. The
City will rent 3,251 square feet of ground floor space at 112 West
Parrish Street. The Common Room is expected to help promote efforts to
commemorate the "Black Wall Street" era and the legacy of the black
business community in Durham; provide a gathering place for community
organizations; create more walking traffic along Parrish Street and in
Downtown Durham. The rent for each year of the two-year lease will be
$55,267.

 

Fire Station #9 Is Step Closer to Becoming Reality

The City Council approved a $213,301 contract for architectural and
engineering design services for construction of Fire Station #9.  The
station will be located at 1602 Camden Avenue and will replace the
existing station on East Club Boulevard. The new station is expected to
increase service to the district with a quicker response because it will
be able to handle a larger and more effective force. It's also expected
to provide better response routes into high call volume areas.

*         Senior Economic Development Manager Chris Dickey with the
City's Office of Economic & Workforce Development - explains why the
City needs the public's input on the future of the Angier-Driver Area
Streetscape Project. 

 

*         Capt. Delma Allen, division commander for the Durham Police
Department's Community Services Bureau - offers a look at what the
department is doing during Crime Prevention Month and throughout the
year to help educate residents and businesses on how to keep themselves
safe.

 

*         Assistant Director Martin Nona with the City's Department of
Water Management - explains how the cleaning requirements for the City's
sewer lines could affect toilets and cause damage to household
bathrooms.

 

"City Hall This Week" is a news program dedicated to informing Durham
residents about what is going on inside Durham's City Hall. Each edition
is taped on the first and third Tuesday of the month - the day after
City Council meetings. It airs three times a day on DTV8 (Time Warner
Cable channel 8) through the week of the next City Council meeting. For
