To InterNeighborhood Council,
I thought you might find the attached highlights from the Interim Risk
Management Plan helpful in compiling your comments to Billy Meyer, the BB&T
Project Manger --- a site that has been contaminated by a dry cleaning
chemicals. The Interim Risk Management Plan (RMP) is available online at
www.ncdsca.org <http://www.ncdsca.org> , under ³Public Notices.²
The direct link to the RMP is

The BB&T site is one of the state¹s highest priority site. What the State
does or does not do to clean up this site may set the pattern for many of
the contaminated sites across North Carolina.
The deadline for submitting public comments is April 13, 2011. Comments are
to be sent to:
Billy Meyer
DSCA Remediation Unit
Division of Waste Management, NC DENR
1646 Mail Service Center
Raleigh, NC 27699-1646
To request additional information, contact:
Billy Meyer, hydrogeologist, NC DENR DSCA project manager for the BB&T site,
at 919.508.8415.
Issues of concern to residents and commercial property owners include:
Health issues related to the demolition of a contaminated building (from
dry-cleaning contamination, asbestos, and particulate matter, and more)
Traffic circulation in the area during the time of demolition and
cleanup
Appropriate and proper disposal of the demolition debris
The remediation of the ³BB&T site² could impact more than Trinity Park. The
Walltown neighborhood begins one block away from the ³BB&T Building.² Other
neighborhoods are within close walking distance. The site is located on a
major Durham thoroughfare (Club Blvd.), which is used by vehicles and
pedestrians alike, and is in a shopping area that includes a mall and
numerous small businesses. There is a DATA bus stop at the site as well as
one directly across the street. These DATA buses are used by countless
customers and employees, seven days a week.
Other people who might be concerned about potential health consequences are
the staff and customers of the businesses previously located at the site and
nearby.
A public hearing on the remediation of the ³BB&T site² is planned for a
later date. There will be another opportunity to make written comments at
that time.
Please spread the word, that is ask others to write letters, about the BB&T
site and it¹s Interim Risk Management Plan.
Thanks.
