I know you probably didn't intend it that way but the words you chose use
happen to be very similar to what many of us heard when we stood shoulder to
shoulder for civil rights. This is a secular issue, not a religious issue.
I see no reason why Gays and Lesbians should be denied a civil right to
marry under state law. If religions want to excluded Gays and Lesbians from
marriage within their faith, then that's their right and that's just one of
many reasons we should continue to keep the state and religions separate.
I agree that an agenda is involved. It is the same agenda of exclusion that
has been used repeatedly in this country over the years to exclude not only
Blacks but Jews, Catholics, Immigrants, Unions and Women among others and
now it is being used s an argument to exclude Gays and Lesbians.
Each of these efforts over time to exclude have rested on the insinuation of
"they have a choice" usually wrapped around a doctrine or to signal Social
Darwinism and/or as though a judgmental God had created people a certain way
so they should be excluded.
I hope we can keep government and religion separate as this is debated but I
doubt it. It's the agenda of many of those driving it to create a false
choice.
