About the Office of Economic and Workforce Development

The Office of Economic and Workforce Development oversees programs and
services that help businesses start, grow, stay in, and get recruited to
Durham. These services include offering advice to businesses and
assisting with financing through our economic development grant and
incentive programs. The department also administers federal, local, and
private grant dollars to help people move forward on a career path, find
jobs, and keep them. Guided by the City's Strategic Plan, the department
helps ensure that Durham has a strong and diverse economy by helping to
revitalize Durham's urban neighborhoods and targeted suburban areas;
increase Durham's commercial tax base; and prepare the community's
workforce for the 21st century economy. For more information, visit
