DURHAM, N.C. - The following highlights from the January 17, 2012 Durham
City Council meetings and other topics of interest will be featured in
this episode of "City Hall This Week." The show begins airing on Friday,
January 20 at 8 p.m. and will also be available to watch on demand on
Monday, January 23 at www.DurhamNC.gov/DTV8/CityHallThisWeek.cfm.

Improvements in Store for Old North Durham Park

Some much-needed maintenance improvements will soon be made to the Old
North Durham Park. The City Council approved a resolution allowing for
stormwater and drainage problems to be addressed at a cost of
approximately $100,000. It also addresses the dimensions of the park's
soccer field allowing for it to be lined with dimensions of at least 300
feet by 160 feet. While that's slightly smaller than previous
requirements, the field can be used to accommodate the larger dimensions
whenever necessary. Durham Parks and Recreation Director Rhonda Parker
explains what improvements will be made and why they're needed on this
episode of "City Hall This Week."

Repairs to the Church Street Parking Deck Move Forward

A number of repairs to the Church Street Parking Deck are moving
forward. The repairs have been prioritized with life safety issues being
categorized as the top priority. To begin to address those issues, the
City Council approved a $73,600 professional services contract for
design and construction documents. That money is part of $750,000 that
has been set aside for the overall repair project at the deck.

Elevated Storage Tank to Help Meet Future Water Demands

Some of the City's future water demands will soon be met by a new
elevated storage tank. The three-million gallon tank will be located on
Angier Avenue and will store finished drinking water. The additional
storage is needed to equalize flow rates during the peak times of water
use during the day. It is also needed to supply water and maintain
system pressure during emergencies such as fires and water line breaks.
Construction of the new tank is expected to cost $6,065,000.
