About: Durham County Library welcomes Dr. David Halperin to read from and discuss his book, Journal of a UFO Investigator, on Tuesday, May 22 at 7 p.m. at Southwest Regional Library, 3605 Shannon Rd. This coming of age novel uses science fiction themes to explore the mysteries inside us, weaving together compelling psychological drama and vivid outer space adventure. Although not autobiographical, the book captures Halperin's interests: In the 1960's, he was a teenage UFO investigator himself.
Halperin, Professor Emeritus of Religious Studies at UNC Chapel Hill, taught the history of Judaism and specialized in the religious traditions of heavenly ascent. Repeatedly recognized for excellence in undergraduate education, Halperin penned several academic works, but Journal of a UFO Investigator is his first novel. A book signing will follow the reading. For more information about the program, contact Jennifer Lohmann at 919-560-8594.
This author talk is part of the DCL series, "Guilty Pleasures: A Celebration of Genre Fiction." Future programs in the series include visits from Katy Munger, author of three different mystery series including the "Dead Detective" narratives, on Thursday, June 21 at the Main Library; Katherine Ashe, historical romance author, on Sunday, July 15 at North Regional Library; and Claudia Welch, women's fiction author, on Sunday, August 25 at Southwest Regional Library. This series is made possible by funding from Durham Library Foundation.
Durham County Library provides the entire community with books, services and other resources that inform, inspire learning, cultivate understanding and excite the imagination.
