City's YouTube Channel
DTV8's "City Hall This Week" will debut a new show tonight at 8 p.m.
Hosted by Senior Public Affairs Specialist Amy Blalock, this show will
feature the following highlights and other topics of interest. You can
also watch this new episode on demand at

City Council Considers Public Feedback on 2012-2013 Proposed Budget
The City Council is considering the input offered by residents on the
administration's $372.7 million proposed 2012-2013 budget. Council
members received feedback from residents during a public hearing on the
spending plan. The proposed budget includes a property tax increase of
one cent per $100 of assessed property value - an increase that would
raise the annual taxes for the owner of a $150,000 home by $15. A final
vote on the budget is set for June 18.
Encouraging News on State of Durham's Economy
The annual State of Durham's Economy breakfast and presentation offered
encouraging news for the city's economic outlook. The event was held on
June 6 for hundreds of residents, business owners and employees
interested in learning more about how Durham's economy fared in 2011.
Office of Economic and Workforce Development Director Kevin Dick breaks
down Durham's areas of success and areas that need improvement in this
episode of "City Hall This Week."
City Continues to Help Connect Job Seekers with Potential Employers
The Durham Workforce Development Board is continuing to do its part in
fostering a strong economic climate. The board had several primary goals
for 2011. It provided a high level of satisfaction to both businesses
and job seekers; it increased the impact of the Workforce Development
Board in the community; and it leveraged the board's existing resources
by integrating into the greater continuum of services within the
community. Senior Workforce Development Manager Nicholas McCoy explains
how it achieved those goals in this episode of "City Hall This Week."
City on Track to End Year within Budget
Durham's third quarter financial report shows that the City is on track
to end the year within its set budget. All departments, except for one,
will end the year within their approved spending levels. Departments are
expected to spend $1 million less than budgeted, with an overage in
personnel costs of $800,000 being more than offset by savings in
operating costs. Two of the major sources of revenue for the City -
property and sales taxes - are up for the third quarter over the same
period last year. Find out what the report says these and other numbers
mean on this episode of "City Hall This Week."
"What Durham Is Saying" Features Fire Protection and Rescue Services
If excellent fire protection and outstanding rescue services are
important to you - then Durham is apparently the place for you. That
feedback stems from the 2011 Resident Satisfaction Survey and is the
focus of this week's "What Durham Is Saying" segment. Yet again, fire
protection and rescue services showed the highest level of satisfaction
among the services provided by the City. Durham Fire Department Chief
Bruce Pagan explains why he thinks residents say they're very happy with
the fire protection and rescue services and how the Fire Department will
continue to work to improve these services over the next couple of
years.
