Durham County Library Finishes Summer Reading Club
with System-wide Fun, Games & Prizes

DURHAM- After a summer filled with reading fun, Durham County Library will send off the summer season with a system-wide festival. Every library location will host a Celebration of Reading finale event featuring games, food and prizes. The events will take place on Friday, August 10, from 3-5:30 p.m. at McDougald Terrace and Bragtown Libraries. All other locations will host their celebrations on Saturday, August 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

"More than 10,000 children, teens and adults sign up for summer reading each year, and approximately 70 percent reach their reading goals." said Karlene Fyffe, the library's youth services administrator. "This year, thousands of families participated in library programs that encouraged kids to "Dream Big: Read!" Summer reading 2012 has definitely been a success."
Throughout the summer, club participants tracked their reading to qualify for weekly and monthly prizes. Those who met the minimum requirements were entered into grand prize drawings. The grand prizes will include personal computers, laptops, Nook books and DVD players for adults.
