About: Durham County Library presents a screening of the documentary film Change Comes Knocking: The Story of the NC Fund. The film explores the history of the groundbreaking anti-poverty program initiated by Governor Terry Sanford in the early 1960s. It will screen on Saturday, October 20 at 3 p.m., at the Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro St.

The North Carolina Fund brought together federal, state and local governments, foundations and the state's civic and business leaders with the goal of breaking the bonds of racism and inequity, and nurturing a more progressive North Carolina. The Fund promulgated the "radical" idea of including local people in decisions about their own destinies.

After the screening, Rebecca Cerese, the film's director, producer, co-writer and researcher, will be joined by community organizer Rubye Gattis and Nathan Garrett, the former Deputy Director of the Fund, to lead a panel discussion and answer questions about the film and the North Carolina Fund.

This event is sponsored by Durham Library Foundation. For more information, contact Joanne Abel at 919-560-0268.
