Thanks to Officers Kelly Green and Steve Hall who came to our NA meeting  
last night. We talked a lot about safety and crime. Attached is their holiday 
 safety tip sheet. If you cannot read the whole sheet or cannot open it, 
start  with these basic ideas:
 
1.  If it looks suspicious to you, it looks suspicious to the lads  and 
lasses in blue. Don't hesitate to call 911. The police are counting  us to be 
their eyes and ears. If you work at home keep an eye out. Let  the police 
decide if anything strange really is totally innocent. That is  their job. (We 
have advised in the past to call the non-emergency number at PD  
communications. Since all calls go to the same operators, they are phasing  that out 
and all calls should be to 911). You have heard it  before but here is it is 
again: If you are even thinking of calling  911, call. 
 
2.  Most crime is crime of opportunity. The thieves want to grab  something 
quick without being seen and without confronting anybody. Keep your  house 
and car locked. Don't leave valuables out in plain sight. Don't  advertise 
the fact you are away--let a trusted neighbor know you are gone and  have 
them check for papers, mail and packages. 
 
3.  How many Toshiba TV sets are made each year? Lots. So get your  serial 
numbers on your goods--especially small electronics which are the  favorite 
of pawn shops--or mark them with your license number (Kelly  recommended 
leave your name off--the police can check DL quickly as well).
