Most Durham County Government Offices to Close July 4 for Independence Day Holiday

Durham, N.C. - Durham County Government will observe the Independence Day holiday on Thursday, July 4, 2019. On this day, non-essential offices for the County will be closed. All County offices will reopen and resume normal hours of operation on Friday, July 5th.

Durham County General Services
County Convenience Sites
The Durham County General Services Department will close its four Solid Waste and Recycling Convenience Sites on July 4th. Durham County residents with a current 2018-2019 solid waste decal can resume disposal of garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky items on July 5th beginning at 7 a.m.

Roadside Recycling Collection
The Durham County roadside recycling collection (Schedule A - North of the Eno River) for the week of July 1st will not change due to the holiday. Customers scheduled for Thursday's collection will receive service on Thursday as scheduled.

Durham County Department of Public Health
The Durham County Department of Public Health will follow the Durham County Government Independence Day holiday schedule.

For Public Health emergencies during the holiday closure, including communicable disease reporting, environmental health and suspected foodborne illnesses, please call 911 and ask for the Durham County Department of Public Health's response team member on-call.

Durham County Library
Durham County Library will also close on July 4th for the Independence Day holiday. The Main Library downtown is closed for a complete transformation project<https://durhamcountylibrary.org/transformationmain/>, but all other locations will reopen on July 5th with normal business hours.

Durham County Social Services
Durham County's Department of Social Services (DSS) will follow the Durham County Government holiday closing schedule. DSS will close their offices in the Human Services Building on East Main Street, as well as, the DSS Child Care Subsidy Office, located at 1201 Briggs Avenue, Suite 101, on July 4th. Offices will reopen with normal hours of operation on July 5th.

While offices are closed for the holiday, residents should call 911 to report child and/or adult abuse and neglect. An on-call social worker will be notified. For more information about Durham County DSS visit www.dconc.gov/dss<http://www.dconc.gov/dss>.

Durham County Sheriff
The Durham County Sheriff's Office patrol division is available 24/7. The Sheriff's Administration and Records Division will be closed on July 4th and will reopen on July 5th.
