Subject: Fw: DCHC MPO Seeks Comment on U.S. 15-501 Corridor Study -- by Wednesday

This is just one step. They assume about a 50% growth in population by 2050 and show how bad transportation will get if we make no changes in the infrastructure. The next step will be to develop and evaluate some alternatives (more buses).

If you want to make comments:

  * Don't fuss at them about the growth forecast. It's what they have to use.
  * They just evaluate in detail where the roads fail. I think we need to ask for real measures of equity and non-road gaps and deeper analysis of some of the areas with big growth.
  * The most useful parts to look at are the deficiency maps and the tables of measures.

2050 MTP . The federal government requires the DCHC MPO to update their Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) at lease every four years. The 2050 MTP will identify the highway, public transportation, bicycle, pedestrian and other transportation projects that the region plans to implement over the next thirty years to meet the MPO’s goals.

DCHC MPO Seeks Comment on U.S. 15-501 Corridor Study

Feedback Requested by October 13

DURHAM, N.C. – If you’re interested in helping to shape our region’s transportation future, now’s your chance to give feedback on proposed highway, transit, bicycle, and pedestrian improvements in the U.S. 15-501 corridor between Durham and Chapel Hill.

The Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization (DCHC MPO) is now seeking public feedback on their proposed study for the corridor. The U.S. 15-501 Corridor Study<http://www.dchcmpo.org/programs/local/us_15_501_corridor_study_(durham___chapel_hill).asp> identifies future highway, transit, bicycle, pedestrian, and other transportation improvements along U.S. 15-501 between University Drive in Durham and Ephesus Church Road in Chapel Hill. The study integrates land use, relevant local and statewide plans, and a transportation vision for distinct segments of the area.

A copy of the proposed study can now be found on the DCHC MPO website<http://www.dchcmpo.org/programs/local/us_15_501_corridor_study_(durham___chapel_hill).asp>, and residents and stakeholders are encouraged to email their comments to Andrew.Henry at DurhamNC.gov<mailto:Andrew.Henry at DurhamNC.gov>. Residents and stakeholders may also directly address the DCHC MPO Board concerning the Corridor Study on Wednesday, October 14 beginning at 9 a.m. during the public hearing at their virtual board meeting. Participants are asked to request to speak at the public hearing by sending an email to Andrew.Henry at DurhamNC.gov<mailto:Andrew.Henry at DurhamNC.gov> by October 13. The October 14 virtual meeting will also be live streamed on the DCHC MPO’s Facebook page<https://www.facebook.com/MPOforDCHC>.
