Durham Begins Project to Inventory All City Street Conditions

DURHAM, N.C. - As the City of Durham begins its assessment of the condition of all City-owned streets<https://durhamnc.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=2877>, residents may soon see mobile data collection vehicles cruising their neighborhoods.

The City's Public Works Department has hired Roadway Asset Services<https://roadwayassetservices.com/> (RAS) to create a digital data inventory of the condition of City-owned streets as well as above ground, transportation-related assets located within the right-of-way.

In order to collect this data, the RAS vehicles<https://roadwayassetservices.com/services/> will be traveling all City-owned streets within the city limits during daylight hours only to ensure the highest quality of data and imagery. The project is expected to begin on July 6 and should be finished by the end of October 2021.

Once the 2021 pavement evaluation and asset inventory survey data has been gathered, the City's Public Works Department will use this information to more effectively plan and manage the maintenance of City-owned streets.

To view a map and listing of all City-owned streets as well as review the 2018 Pavement Condition Index Survey, visit the department's webpage<https://durhamnc.gov/684/MapsCity-Streets>.

Residents who need additional information regarding the RAS vehicles, inventory project or the collection process are encouraged to contact Project Manager Bayan Alzubi with the City's Public Works Department at (919) 560-4326, ext. 30296 or by email<mailto:Bayan.Alzubi at DurhamNC.gov>.
