Dear Neighbors:

This year Preservation Durham's Home Tour goes Mid-Century with a survey of
fabulous Rambling Ranch Houses from the early 1950s through the 1960s.
Included are beautiful homes designed by the region's outstanding architects
like Robert Winston Carr, Joe Hakan, George Hackney and Charlie Knott. The
tour features houses in Hope Valley, Rockwood, Forest Hills, Duke Park, and
Bragtown. This is a tour you won't want to miss!

The tour takes place over two days, Saturday May 18 and Sunday May 19, rain
or shine. Tickets grant access to all houses on both days from 12-4pm. You
can break the tour up into two days, do it all in one, or take the entire
tour twice! Early-bird tickets are available at a reduced rate of $30 for
Preservation Durham members and $40 for the general public until May 8.
After that, tickets are $40 for Preservation Durham members and $50 for the
general public. Get your tickets right away!

Preservation Durham's Rambling Ranch month includes a live program given by
architectural and historic preservation expert Sara Lachenman at 6 p.m. on
Tuesday, May 7 in the main hall of the Temple Building downtown at 302 W.
Main Street, Durham. Focusing on Durham examples, Sara will give us a
run-down of the history of the Ranch Style and the social influences that
created it. She will point out the salient features of the style and
provide everyone with a better appreciation of the Ranch as a reflection of
American residential life in the middle of the 20th Century. This program
is free. Sign up at:
