County to Recognize Veterans Day Holiday
Most DCo Government offices to close on Monday, November 11
Durham, N.C. - Durham County Government will close most offices in recognition of the Veterans Day holiday on Monday, November 11, 2024. All offices will reopen with their normal hours of operation on Tuesday, November 12.

Please read further for impacts to some County services because of the Veterans Day holiday observance:
Durham County General Services
Convenience Sites
The Durham County General Services Department will close all three of its solid waste and recycling convenience sites on Monday, November 11. Durham County residents with a current 2024-2025 solid waste decal can resume disposal of garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky items at the County's convenience sites on Tuesday, November 12 under normal hours of operation.
Roadside Recycling
The Durham County roadside recycling schedule for customers normally serviced the week of November 11 will not be affected. All residents are reminded to set out their recycling bins by 6 a.m. on the day of pickup, to avoid a missed collection. Residents who want to keep track of their recycling collection schedule should download the "Durham County Recycles" mobile application. Residents can download the mobile app for free on Apple devices in the App Store<https://apps.apple.com/app/id1481279900> or Android devices in the Google Play Store<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gov.dconc.recollect.waste>.

Durham County Library
Durham County Library locations will be closed on Monday, November 11 in recognition of the Veterans Day holiday and will return to normal operating hours on Tuesday, November 12.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the many online services provided through the Durham County Library by visiting DurhamCountyLibrary.org<http://www.durhamcountylibrary.org>.

Durham County Public Health
The Durham County Department of Public Health (DCoDPH) will follow the Durham County Government Veterans Day holiday closing schedule on Monday, November 11.
For Public Health emergencies during the holiday closure, including communicable disease reporting, environmental health and suspected foodborne illnesses, please call 911 and ask for the Durham County Department of Public Health's response team member on-call.

Durham County Social Services
On Monday, November 11, the Durham County Department of Social Services (DSS) will follow the Durham County Government Veterans Day holiday closing schedule. Residents are encouraged to call 919-560-4600 to reach an on-call social worker to report child abuse and neglect. Call 984-243-1280 to report adult abuse and neglect to an on-call social worker.

Durham County Sheriff's Office
Durham County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division, as always, is available 24/7. The Sheriff's Administration and Records Division will be closed on Monday, November 11 and will reopen on Tuesday, November 12.

Durham County Cooperative Extension
Durham County Cooperative Extension will be closed on Monday, November 11 for Veterans Day. All programs scheduled for Monday will be canceled. Cooperative Extension will resume with normal business hours on Tuesday, November 12.
Over the holiday, the public may drop off soil sample boxes and pick up sample supplies from the outside station located in the blue box to the right of the Extension building at 721 Foster Street.

County to Host Annual Veterans Day Celebration on Nov. 11
The public is invited to attend the 13th Annual Durham County Veterans Day Recognition and Celebration Program. The Durham County Veteran Services Department will present its full Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m., inside Conference Rooms B and C on the second floor of the County's Human Services Building (HSB) at 414 E. Main St.
Each year, Durham County recognizes U.S. military veterans of all branches of service during this celebration of patriotism, service, and sacrifice. The program will include the singing of the National Anthem, a "Walk of Honor" for veterans, a keynote address from Board of County Commissioners Vice Chair Nimasheena Burns, and a POW/MIA presentation. The theme for this year's event is "Honoring all Who Served."
